I just finished watching the Presidential Address to Congress. As I watched this address, I remember just a month ago, when The President spoke, I still had a job. Tonight he mentioned workers that thought they would retire from the jobs they were working at, and now the jobs are gone. I am one of those people. But I have to say that from where I stand right now, I believe that there is hope. I have faith in God and in what we can do as Americans. 57 police officers in Minneapolis still have a job because of the efforts of our leadership. That is huge!
The weight of this crisis will not determine the destiny of this nation. Tonight I want every American to know this: We will rebuild, we will recover, and the United States of America will emerge stronger than before.
President Obama
So as I listened intently, as I did a month ago, I felt like I was watching history unfold before my eyes. I believe that future generations will look back and wonder what is was like to live during this time. Just like I have asked my Grandfather what it was like during the Great Depression, our kids and grand-kids will ask us the same questions. Things are tough, but that is when you really learn what you believe, because that is all you have left sometimes.
