Another day of paperwork and applications. Not to mention a million or so job search sites. Just kidding….it was 2 million. You know, I found sites I have never heard of before.

Melissa and I had to run some errands this afternoon, Melissa was playing hookey from work today. Anyways, after running across town and back, we came home and put away the groceries. I ran a copy of my resume over to my neighbor Mark. We talked for about a half hour and he gave me a couple of leads that I will pursue Monday. He was very encouraging.

When I came back from his house I picked up the mail. To my surprise there was a card from the gang at Emcor.

Well, yesterday was kind of a lonely day. I spent the entire day, after meeting with Preston’s group, working on my resume. Was hard to be here at home all by myself all day. I am use to being around other people all day long, so that was different.

It looks like winter is back. It’s snowing outside now and the wind is blowing. I guess the windchill is like -20. At least I can get out and get the sidewalks clear as soon as it stops.

I have an appointment with David Wheeler, a manager over at Man Power, he is a friend of Preston’s. I guess they have a professional placement service as well. David is a rather unconventional guy and loves what he does and enjoys helping people. I am hopeful about this meeting. We are going to review what I have done on my resume and look at some options.

I ran out of black ink in my printer this morning, so I guess I’ll make a run to the store to get more. Go figure I would run out when I need it most. :)

Anyways, still here and kicking. Like the old saying goes “what doesn’t kill us only makes us stronger.” I hope you are all doing well. I would love to hear from you guys. Keep in touch.

Started today off with a meeting at Preston’s Worklife group at Oasis Church. It was a small group and I knew a few of the faces that were there. Worklife is a small support group for people who have been displaced or are looking for work. It was a little scary seeing so many qualified people there that have been looking for work for so long.

Today is resume day for me. I started listing skills and info yesterday and hope to start hammering out the details next. I have found a lot of examples out on the internet and even more in job search brochures.

I also got an email from Dan Tyre from Hubspot with some great resources and some encouragement. I am looking forward to reviewing that info later today.

That’s it for now, maybe more later if there is more to report on.

Day 1

I went back to Mankato this last weekend and was glad to be with family during this difficult time. It was nice to get home and be somewhere familiar.

My day started early today, at 4am. I don’t know why I woke up so early, but I just couldn’t get back to sleep. I decided to just get up and record a couple of shows to dvd from the DVR. After that I ran over to Plant 2 and turned in some paper work and returned a wrench to Jill at Plant 1.

Out of Work

Well, as of yesterday (Feb 13, 2009) I was officially let go. It was not due to anything wrong with my performance, our company had been going through tough economic times. I have watched over the last two months as our production floor went to four day work weeks, and then in the last several weeks, layoffs.

Well, after much research and frustration I have decided to stay with wordpress. It seems that there really isn’t anything any better out there. I will be attempting to re-post my previous 16 blogs dating back to May of last year (2008). So if anyone out there has any good tutorials on how to style the themes, please let me know. I am fluent with CSS on an intermediate level, but I am not really getting where to make the tweaks.

In re-installing wordpress I ended up with the newest version, 2.7. I like the interface better than 2.6 and hope it will be a little more intuitive.

So just a few short words to explain all the confusion here lately and if things are messed up for awhile, you will know why. Anyone out there that has any helpful input, please comment or email. I am open to suggestions.
